What is the difference between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14
When do they go out?
Both models are relatively new with guaranteed software support for many years to come. In September 2021, Apple introduced iPhone 13 with a new placement of the rear cameras compared to the previous model and again with a wide variety of colors. The front notch (translated into English “Notch”) has been optimized by 20% compared to the previous model. A year later in 2022, the newer model iPhone 14 was premiered, which visually has small differences from its predecessor. While the company hasn't made huge changes visually to the phone, they have optimized much of the internal components and software of the newer model. Along with the 14th series came the iOS 16 software update that allowed the Bulgarian language on iPhone.
Characteristics
Design
The truth is that visually it is difficult to find differences between the two models because the main difference is that the newer model is slightly thinner. Both use flat aluminum side moldings with elegant curves at their edges. Also, both have a large selection of color options. The older model weighs 174 grams, while the newer one weighs 172 grams, or 2 grams less. Both smartphones use a protective ceramic coating for their front and back glass.
Display
There is no difference in the display because both phones have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, with HDR10 technology and brightness from 800 to 1200 nits (peak value). The resolution of both phones is 1170 by 2532 pixels, and the display coating is ceramic, and Apple mentions that it is times better than that of their older phones, which used Gorilla Glass technology. An interesting fact is that the company that manufactures Ceramic Shield is the same company that manufactures Gorilla Glass. Namely, Corning did not share any particular information about the differences between the two types of protective glass for smartphones.
Processor
Interestingly, both smartphones use the same Apple A15 Bionic processor, which would often tip the scales in favor of the older one, because there is no point in a higher investment given that we are getting the same product, but this is not exactly the case. While the iPhone 14 uses the older processor of the previous series, it has 50% more RAM and an improved 5-core graphics card for better performance when playing games, watching movies, or other more demanding operations. Both phones have extremely good performance, but the iPhone 14 is more optimized and everything runs more smoothly on it, while the battery at the same time drops an idea slower compared to the Thirteen.
OS
Both models use Apple's iOS mobile operating system. The iPhone 13 was released with iOS 15, while the newer one was announced with iOS 16. Nowadays, both phones are updated to the latest version of iOS 16.4.
Camera
The front cameras are almost the same with a 12-megapixel wide sensor. Both smartphones are unlocked with Face ID through the front sensor. Both models have 12-megapixel wide and ultra-wide cameras. The newer model has slight improvements with a larger aperture for more light. Accordingly, the photos in the dark are a little better.
Video
Both iPhones support shooting video clips up to 4K resolution with up to 60 frames per second. Another extra that both models support is Apple's innovative extra - Cinematic mode. As with the iPhone 14, the shooting quality in this mode is up to 4K resolution and 30 frames per second, and with the iPhone 13 it is up to Full HD 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second.
Memory
The two phones share the same internal memory for storing photos, videos, music, applications, and other consumption. The characteristic difference is that they differ in their operational RAM memory. The older 13 has 4GB of RAM, and the newer 14 has been upgraded with a total of 6GB of RAM, or 2GB more for smoother use of apps and games.
Color
With both models, we have a large selection of colors that would look great in our interior. With the iPhone 13, we have a choice of colors: white, black, blue, pink, red, and green. In the newer model, we have a black, purple, white, blue, red, and yellow colors. If you're having a hard time spotting the differences, they are: the older model has pink and green, while the newer model has purple and yellow.
eSIM
On the older model, we have the standard compatibility of physical nano SIM cards and one additional eSIM virtual card, which means the phone is Dual Sim. In the next iPhone 14 model, Apple announced that for certain markets, they will continue with Dual Sim technology, but for America, they will only offer smartphones with virtual eSIM cards. This practically means that users still have 2 active SIM cards, but can store at least 6 more SIM cards in their phones.
Battery
The two smartphones have almost identical batteries, with the iPhone thirteen having a 3240 mAh battery, while the iPhone 14 has a 3279 mAh battery. Both models can be charged up to 50% in 30 minutes in the presence of a fast charger for iPhones with 20W power. According to Apple, the iPhone 13 lasts up to 17 hours of watching video or up to 55 hours of listening to audio. Its newer counterpart lasts up to 20 hours of video and 80 hours of listening to music, which is 17% more watching video and 45% more listening to music.
